What happened to Tommy Edman? Injury updates for Dodgers infielder on 7/05/26

Tommy Edman was scratched from the Dodgers’ lineup before Sunday Night Baseball against the San Diego Padres, giving Los Angeles a late change before one of the sport’s loudest rivalry windows.

The Dodgers did not immediately announce a reason for the scratch. That leaves Edman’s status as the key pregame watch before first pitch at Dodger Stadium.

Edman gives Dave Roberts one of the roster’s cleanest connective pieces. He switch-hits, moves around the diamond, defends several spots, and lengthens a lineup already built around Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, Teoscar Hernández, Max Muncy, and Andy Pages.

Los Angeles can still overwhelm almost any matchup through star power alone. Edman’s absence still changes the shape of the night, especially against a San Diego club trying to steal traction from a rough week.

The Dodgers entered Sunday with 10 wins in their last 12 games since June 22. They also held a 7-2 season edge over the Padres, who arrived at Dodger Stadium carrying an eight-game losing streak after Saturday’s shutout loss.

That gives the scratch a sharper edge. The Dodgers are rolling, the Padres are searching, and Sunday Night Baseball puts every lineup card under brighter light. A late Edman change gives San Diego one fewer switch-hitting problem to solve.
