What happened to Zebby Matthews? Live injury updates for Twins vs. Yankees on 7/4/26

Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Zebby Matthews exited Saturday’s game against the New York Yankees due to injury.

The good news is that the issue doesn’t appear to be serious. Matthews left due to a foot laceration, so it’s unlikely he misses much, if any extra time before his next start.

The young hurler went 4.2 innings against the Yankees, allowing four earned runs on three hits and four walks. He struck out five batters as well.

The 26-year-old arm has put forth a quality campaign so far, amassing a 4.43 ERA with a 1.16 WHIP and 51 strikeouts across 61.0 IP. Matthews has a 4-5 record, but has shown some impressive flashes in his third pro season.

The Twins are 42-47, third in the AL Central prior to the conclusion of today’s game against New York.
