Rick and Morty has been one of the most popular adult animated series for quite a while now, going through full cycles of hype and anticipation over the past 12-plus years. And while some of the network’s other tentpoles have come and gone, this franchise is moving strong. The bonkers sci-fi show has settled into a more regular release pattern as of late, and that rhythm is set to continue with Season 9, which gets rolling this weekend.

When does Rick and Morty come out?
Rick and Morty Season 9 Episode 1 will premiere on Adult Swim at 11 p.m. ET on Sunday, May 24. The episode, which is titled There’s Something About Morty, will have a runtime around 22 minutes. It will not be available to stream until Monday, June 15 on HBO Max and Hulu. From then on, new episodes will release next-day on both streaming services.
As was the case with the past seven seasons, Season 9 will be 10 episodes long. It will run through the finale on Sunday, July 26.

Who will show up this season?
Rick and Morty has had a pretty stable cast over the years, barring Adult Swim cutting ties with co-creator and lead voice actor Justin Roiland in 2023. The two titular roles are now filled by separate people, as they were in Seasons 7 and 8. Here is a look at the recurring cast, as well as who they are playing:

What to expect in Rick and Morty
The overarching narrative that anchored the early seasons of Rick and Morty is largely in the rear-view mirror. Evil Morty taking over the Citadel of Ricks wrapped up in the Season 5 finale, while Rick finally got his revenge and killed Rick Prime midway through Season 7. There weren’t many massive leaps forward in the lore during Season 8, outside of Morty Jr. making a one-off return after being absent since Season 1.
Based on the trailer for Season 9, there will once again be plenty of intergalactic adventures. There looks to be an episode where the Smith family has to fight their killer house and sentient furniture, an episode where Morty is captured by Neanderthal-like creatures and some kind of martial arts-based episode. With so many random gags and opening credit sequence misdirects, however, it’s hard to nail down exactly what lies ahead.
