Arsenal became the champions of England on Tuesday night for the first time in 22 years after Man City slipped up against Bournemouth. That certainly changes the outlook for the final week of the season, as neither team has any motivation to win this one. Crystal Palace have the UEFA Conference League final three days later, while the Gunners have the UEFA Champions League six days later. Both squads will have their eyes set on those future games and use this match as an opportunity to rest players and rotate the squad. The worst thing that could happen to either team is to pick up an injury or fatigue for important players who then don’t show up in a European final.
That all being said, there will still be 11 players on the pitch for both teams. I still like the Gunners with their “B” team to be able to get the job done against a Palace team who will also likely be playing most of their backups. Part of the reason that Arsenal are champions is that they have one of the deepest squads in Europe, and I expect them to use that on Sunday. There are no scrubs in this squad, and I expect them to churn out a win, even if this game might end up as a bit of a boring watch.
Arsenal have won three of the last five games against Crystal Palace, drawing two. Their last trip to Selhurst Park was a 5-1 victory last season. Don’t expect those kinds of fireworks in this one, but I like their value at only -125 to win.
