After suffering a HBP in the bottom of the first inning, Red Sox 1B Willson Contreras has left the game. The team replaced him in the field with Andruw Monasterio, according to Chris Cotillo.
This is a massive blow to a Boston lineup, especially considering this isn’t the first time Contreras has been bothered by a wrist injury. As noted in the tweet below, he was nursing his right wrist earlier this year. And he’s one of the most-often-hit batsmen in the league.
He was just about the only season-long brightspot for Boston’s offense, and now the team is likely staring down at least a week or two without him.
We’ll provide more updates here as we receive them from the team.
