The Philadelphia 76ers have announced that Joel Embiid will miss tonight’s matchup with the Washington Wizards due to illness. The issue was first reported by Kay Carolin of SixersWire and will leave the Sixers to take on Washington without their big man.
Embiid complained about the illness following the Sixers’ loss to the Heat on Monday. The former MVP was limited to 26 points, seven rebounds, and three assists in a 119-109 loss.
Injuries have been at the forefront of the conversation when it comes to Embiid throughout his career. The 32-year-old has suited up for 36 games this season, and is posting averages of 26.9 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game across 31.3 minutes per game. The Sixers are 23-13 on the season in games that Embiid has played.
Philadelphia still has plenty to play for down the home stretch of the season. The 76ers currently sit in seventh place in the Eastern Conference with a 41-34 record. They are one game behind the Toronto Raptors for the sixth seed, and the Orlando Magic are one game behind them in the eighth seed.
Embiid was not mentioned on any injury report until being ruled out this morning. Following the news, the 76ers shifted from 16.5-point favorites to 13.5-point favorites on DraftKings Sportsbook. The Wizards now hold +650 odds of winning outright with the game total set at 239.5 points.
Looking at the bigger picture, the Sixers have shifted to -600 odds to make the playoffs and hold +425 odds to miss on DraftKings Sportsbook. They also hold the fifth-best odds of winning the Eastern Conference at +2200 odds and +8000 odds of winning the NBA championship.
