Coco Gauff has had an up-and-down 2026 season so far. She made the quarterfinals at the Australian Open and the semifinals in Dubai. However, she was also knocked out early at the Qatar Open and Indian Wells, where she suffered an injury. Gauff is a top-five player in the world and a two-time major champion. However, she would love to add more of these prestigious titles, like the Miami Open, to her trophy cabinet. Gauff is in a great position to win this title, but first, she needs to get through the great Belinda Bencic.
Belinda Bencic has never reached the mountaintop, but she has been a consistently great player throughout this decade. She has never made it to a major final. However, she did win an Olympic gold medal in 2021. Bencic remains a top-15 player in the world after winning two WTA 500 titles last year, although Bencic has not won a WTA 1000 title since Dubai in 2019. If she could find a way to win three more matches and secure this Miami Open title, it would be arguably the biggest win of her career, outside of her gold medal.
Coco Gauff vs. Belinda Bencic Pick, Best Bet
Belinda Bencic has not had a chance to play much tennis this year. She was injured at the end of last season and didn’t play tennis from October 2025 to the 2026 Australian Open. She was bounced in the second round there, and then the Abu Dhabi Open was canceled. Bencic made it to the Round of 16 in Dubai, but only after her Round of 32 opponent forfeited due to injury. She did finally play three full matches at Indian Wells, losing to Jessica Pegula in the Round of 16. Bencic is still working to get back into the full swing of things, but this performance in Miami has been a great step in the right direction.
My best bet for this match is on Coco Gauff to get the win. Gauff is full of confidence at the moment and is playing great tennis. Belinda Bencic has had a great tournament, but she is still trying to find her feet this season. Gauff is in the prime of her career and wants to continue to stack important titles. This Miami Open is a great opportunity for her to do just that. Coco Gauff has won four of the last five head-to-head meetings against Belinda Bencic. Gauff’s overall game is just better at the moment, with the edge in almost every category. As long as Gauff comes with her best stuff, she should win this match and move on to the semifinals.
