Daredevil: Born Again finally linked the Marvel Netflix shows with the mainline Marvel Cinematic Universe when it premiered in 2025. But while Kingpin, Punisher and Bullseye featured prominently in season 1, there were some fan-favorite characters who did not immediately get ported over. Jessica Jones, for instance, starred in four seasons of TV over on the Netflix side but was not officially canonized on Disney+ right off the bat.
But with Daredevil: Born Again season 2 premiering in March 2026, could one of the core Defenders join Daredevil in the new era of MCU television?
Is Jessica Jones in Daredevil: Born Again?
At the end of Daredevil: Born Again season 1, Matt Murdock pledges to build an army to fight back against mayor Wilson Fisk’s corrupt vigilante task force. The beginnings of that army consisted of Daredevil, investigative journalist Karen Paige, retired police officer Cherry, detective Angie Kim and a handful of other police officers. And while Frank Castle broke out of custody in the finale’s post-credit scene, his involvement remained undetermined. Suffice to say, fans weren’t exactly satisfied with those ranks.
Matt has a few superhero pals he could bring in, assuming that the Netflix shows are canon and his adventures with the Defenders actually took place in this continuity. Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Colleen Wing and Misty Knight could all be out there.
A few of those characters’ fate is up in the air, except for Jessica Jones. Actress Krysten Ritter came out on stage at New York Comic Con in October 2025, confirming that she would reprise her role for Daredevil: Born Again season 2. She has also featured prominently in the teasers and trailers in the leadup to the season premiere.
It remains to be seen if Jessica Jones has a place in the MCU beyond this season, either as a supporting character in another project or as the lead in a revival of her own show.
Who is Jessica Jones?
Jessica Jones is a gruff, sarcastic private investigator who owns and runs Alias Private Investigations. Like plenty of other superheroes, she grew up as an orphan. The same car crashed that killed her parents is also how she got her powers, since she was exposed to a mysterious blend of chemicals from an IGH convoy during the accident. Jessica boasts super strength and durability, plus she can jump extraordinarily high and far.
Over the course of her three-season show on Netflix, this version of Jessica Jones has an on-again, off-again relationship with Luke Cage. She also fights Killgrave – a.k.a The Purple Man, a mind-controlling psychopath – as well as her adoptive sister-turned-supervillain Trish Walker. While Trish – a.k.a. Hellcat – ends season 3 imprisoned on The Raft, Killgrave has been dead since season 1. Other supporting characters included lawyer Jeri Hogarth and Alias associate Malcolm Ducasse, both of whom are presumably still alive.
In the comics, Jessica debuted is a relatively recent addition to the Marvel universe. She debuted in 2001 as the lead in the Alias series, which also featured Killgrave as her archnemesis.
