It’s no secret that superhero comic books have a tendency to bring characters back after their passing. Naturally, that’s translated to other adaptations — especially the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The latest instance of this situation in the MCU seems to be happening with Foggy Nelson in season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again.
The only thing we know right now: Elden Henson is reprising his role in the Disney+ show. What we’re here to do is to figure out potential explanations for how Foggy Nelson is making his return to Daredevil: Born Again based on what’s happened in the comics, along with other, seemingly logical options.
Why Foggy Nelson is back on Daredevil: Born Again
Option #1: It’s not actually him
The same creative team that introduced Cole North (who was changed dramatically in the show) also seemed to bring Foggy back from the grave in the comics.
As the story moved along, Daredevil came to realize it wasn’t actually his old friend who’d return from the great beyond. It was all part of a larger plot to throw off Daredevil’s own far-reaching scheme.
This theory is right where my head first went when we saw Foggy was back. I’d love to see this bit of deception on-screen. After all, The Hand and their mystical forces are always looming.
Option #2: Someone revived Foggy
In the aforementioned comic book run, once Daredevil realized he’d been duped, he wound up finding a way to save his friend. Foggy was being held captive in a dark corner of the afterlife with many others.
Hard to imagine Daredevil: Born Again going in the specific direction that I’m referring to. On a grounded show, that whole ordeal would feel out of place.
That said, someone finding another way to revive Foggy isn’t as hard to insert into this show. Could be by mystical means or scientific.
Still, I have a hard time imagining that this proves to be the way Daredevil: Born Again goes.
Option #3: It was all an elaborate ruse
They could’ve found a way to fake it. I don’t know how they’d explain it. Can’t say that I like the idea on the surface, but this isn’t an approach exclusive to shows and movies that were inspired by comic books.
I like Option #1 more than #3, but it feels like one could be done just as easily as the other on this show.
Option #4: Flashback
Without question, the most boring theory.
Quite honestly, it’d feel pretty cheap if the show decided to include Foggy in the first trailer when they knew his role in this season was exclusive to one or more flashback sequences.
If this is the only way we see Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson in season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again, then it should’ve been left as a surprise.
