Following two blockbuster movies and a smash-hit first season, Ted is finally back for season 2. The prequel series from Seth MacFarlane has been on hiatus for over two years, but the titular talking teddy bear will surely be as raunchy as ever.
If you are looking to get up to date on the comedy TV show, here is everything you need to know before season 2 comes out:
When does Ted season 2 come out?
Season 2 will hit Peacock on Thursday, March 5. The second season will consist of eight episodes, compared to the seven-episode first season. Episodes in season 1 came in between 34 and 51 minutes. The season 2 premiere is titled “Talk Dirty to Me.”
As was the case with season 1, the entirety of Ted season 2 is coming out all at once.
Season 1, which came out in the thick of the 2024 NFL playoffs, was the most-watched show in Peacock history at the time of release. NBCUniversal’s premier streaming service has added more than 10 million paid subscribers since then, so season 2 could do solid numbers in the wake of the network’s coverage of the Super Bowl, NBA All-Star Weekend and Winter Olympics.
(Warning: Spoilers for Ted season 1 ahead.)
Who will show up this season?
The entire main cast from season 1 is back for season 2. Given the episodic nature of the show, there are sure to be plenty of rotating guest stars, as well. A Mark Wahlberg appearance seems a little far fetched, since the second season takes place roughly 14 years before the first movie, but who knows what MacFarlane has up his sleeve? Here is a look at who is confirmed to be in the cast for season 2:
- Seth MacFarlane as Ted
- Max Burkholder as John Bennett
- Alanna Ubach as Susan Bennett
- Scott Grimes as Matty Bennett
- Giorgia Whigham as Blaire Bennett
- Francesca Xuereb as Erin
- Liz Richman as Polly
- Ara Hollyday as Andrew
- Jack Seavor McDonald as Clive
- Peter Macon as TBD
- Brennan Lee Mulligan as TBD
What to expect in Ted season 2
Several years after John Bennett wished for his teddy bear to come to life, the stuffed animal has grown up alongside him. Ted started going to high school with John in season 1, and they are now in the middle of their senior year.
As seen in the NSFW trailer for season 2, John and Ted are set for even more high school high jinks. Of course, the show is heavily R-rated, earning a TV-MA designation due to its cursing and the characters’ – let’s call it questionable – behavior. Ted was created by the same mind behind Family Guy, after all, so do with that what you will.
At the same time, the Bennett family dynamic provided a solid emotional backbone to an otherwise goofy season 1. If season 2 can keep that up, Ted could establish itself as one of the best sitcoms of the 2020s.
