Benfica won a dramatic game 4-2 in the last game of the League Phase to get themselves into the playoff round. These teams were drawn against each other in the playoff, and Real Madrid won the first leg 1-0 in Portugal. We’ve seen two very different games so far, but I have a feeling the second leg of this playoff will be similar to the first.
For the first time, Benfica will head to the Bernabéu. It’s a daunting place to play when you need to win. Benfica struggled on the road in the league phase, losing three times and winning one. In all three of the losses, the Portuguese side failed to score. On the flip side, Real Madrid defended their home stadium well in the League Phase, winning three of their four home games.
Even though Benfica are trailing and need a goal, I think Madrid will ultimately win this game while keeping a clean sheet and advancing to the Round of 16.
