When Does The Scrubs Revival Premiere on ABC?

After 16 years, it’s time to scrub back in at Sacred Heart. That’s right, J.D. (Zach Braff), Turk (Donald Faison) and Elliot (Sarah Chalke) are back as a revival of the classic 2000s sitcom Scrubs debuts on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.

Scrubs returns with two new episodes, with loglines from the ABC press site below, on February 25:

  • My Return — “John “J.D.” Dorian unexpectedly finds himself back at Sacred Heart, reuniting him with new and old faces.”
  • My 2nd First Day — “J.D. navigates a new normal, while Elliot and Turk clash over the budget.”

The series is a sequel to the original Scrubs series, specifically the first eight seasons with the ninth Med School season basically relegated to elseworlds status. Additionally, great pains have been taken to tell the audience that J.D.’s dream of the future as seen in the finale was just that, a dream of the future. It is not canon, and what J.D. saw on that sheet is merely what his imagination thought his future could be — Scrubs will not be beholden to that vision of the characters’ futures in this revival.

What Is Scrubs

Scrubs debuted on NBC in 2001, a forerunner to the new generation of “Must See TV” that would go on to include The Office, 30 Rock, My Name Is Earl and more. Scrubs would air seven seasons on NBC before moving to ABC for its eighth season followed by a quasi-spinoff ninth season which would see a major cast and premise overhaul.

Scrubs followed a group of young doctors — J.D. Turk and Elliot — beginning with their first day at Sacred Heart. There they worked with and learned from characters like the acerbic Dr. Perry Cox (John C. McGinley), nurse Carla Espinosa (Judy Reyes) and Dr. Bob Kelso (Ken Jenkins). Created by Bill Lawrence, Scrubs would be known for J.D.’s inner monologue, fantastical daydreams, the brilliant use of music, the bromance between J.D. and Turk (Guy Love, if you will) as well as the will-they-won’t-they relationship between J.D. and Elliot.

Over the course of eight seasons (nine if you count Scrubs: Med School), we watched J.D., Turk and Elliot grow from inexperienced newbies to the leaders of the hospital staff and teachers in their own right. They also became parents, spouses and more complete characters overall … but without losing the innocence or whimsy which was part of the show’s hallmark.

Scrubs Revival Trailer

The more things change, the more they stay the same. But are J.D., Turk and Elliot ready to lead a new generation as old favorites and new friends walk the halls of Sacred Heart?

We see J.D. make his return to Sacred Heart, having to reintroduce himself to a new group of doctors, nurses and patients. J.D. is still … well … J.D., Elliot still has no rhythm (which Carla still isn’t afraid to remind her of), Cox is still terrifying interns (albeit under the watchful eye of Vanessa Bayer’s ever-present HR rep, who reminds him he has about 900 strikes) and newbies are still newbies.

However, some things are different. Cox admits that he doesn’t know how to teach this new generation of doctors, and looks to hand the torch off to J.D. to do for them what Cox did for J.D. back in the day. Elliot isn’t sure how they’re going to do it this time around and even J.D.’s beloved “EEEAAAGGGLLLEEE” may be off the table (the horror!).

In the end, J.D. says, “Every doctor wants their hero moment, but most of our hero moments are different than in the movies.” One thing’s for sure, they can’t do this all on their own, oh, no, they’re no Superman.

Scrubs Revival Cast and Crew

The main trio of the original series — Braff, Faison and Chalke — are back as series regulars, while McGinley and Reyes are expected to be recurring guest stars. Neil Flynn (the Janitor) and Christa Miller (Jordan Sullivan) are also set to return, as are old friends The Todd (Robert Maschio) and Hooch (Phill Lewis). Ken Jenkins is not expected to reprise his role of Dr. Bob Kelso in season 1, but could return if the revival is renewed for a second season.

Bayer will headline new additions to the cast, which will include a whole new group of interns to be shown the ways of the medical world by the OG trio.

Braff, Faison and Chalke are executive producers on the revival, as is Lawrence. However, Lawrence will not be returning as showrunner, a role that has been filled by Scrubs veteran Aseem Batra.
