Unlike the Seahawks, the Patriots don’t have a clear No. 1 option in the redzone. New England’s pass game plays through a committee rather than a singular standout receiver. Although, Stefon Diggs is the most notable of the bunch.
Diggs recorded 1,000 receiving yards for the seventh season of his career, but his touchdowns took a major drop. In each of the other six 1,000-yard seasons, Diggs had eight, 11, 10, eight, six and nine receiving touchdowns. This year he had just four.
Hunter Henry (seven) and Kayshon Boutte (six) had more receiving touchdowns than Diggs this season, even with Boutte playing 14 games. All three players have one touchdown in these playoffs.
Another factor to consider is the run game. Both Rhamondre Stevenson and TreVeyon Henderson will get touches, especially in the redzone. Henderson scored nine rushing touchdowns and Stevenson had seven in the regular season.
Lastly, the Seattle defense is one of the best in the NFL. Scoring may be difficult in this matchup, and Diggs hasn’t proven to be the top touchdown scorer for New England anyway.
