Brandon Hagel Anytime Goalscorer (+130)
Among skaters with at least 200 minutes of ice time, Hagel ranks 7th in 5v5 xGoals per 60 and 10th in 5v5 goals per 60. Tonight, he draws a matchup against the Sharks, who played last night and are on the final game of a four-game road trip. The Lightning are 12-0-1 since Dec. 20, while averaging 4.5 goals per game. Hagel was sidelined for the first three games during this span, but across the past 10 outings, the 27-year-old has found the back of the net five times.
Yaroslav Askarov will likely start between the pipes for San Jose tonight, considering Alex Nedeljkovic started last night. Both goaltenders have struggled regardless, given that the Sharks rank 31st in 5v5 goals against per 60 and have allowed the third-most total goals this season. Among 90 eligible goaltenders, Askarov ranks 77th in goals saved above expected and 59th in SV% above expected.
Zach Werenski Anytime Goalscorer (+295)
Werenski has netted a goal in two of the past four games, amid the Blue Jackets’ four-game winning streak, and tonight, he draws a matchup against one of the poorer goaltending teams in the league. The Michigan native leads the team in goals above expected and ranks third in 5v5 goals per 60, which should bode well against a Senators team that ranks 24th in 5v5 goals against per 60. Additionally, Ottawa has allowed the 6th-most goals per game to opposing defensemen.
The Senators will start 37-year-old James Reimer for the second straight game, but his production has fallen off a cliff over the past few years. Reimer allowed four goals on 34 shots in a 4-3 overtime loss on Monday against the Red Wings, and will likely struggle against a Columbus squad that has netted at least four goals in each of the past three outings. Like the club itself, Werenski plays better at home, netting at least one goal in five of the past six home games.
