Tuesday’s Champions League game between Inter Milan and Arsenal sees sixth place take on first in the league phase table. It’s hard to bet against Arsenal right now, who have only lost twice in all competitions so far this season. The Gunners are leading the Champions League table right now, and have only conceded one goal while scoring 17 times. Arsenal have won all six games, including victories over some of the best teams in Europe, such as Atlético Madrid and Bayern Munich.
Inter’s campaign has been satisfactory. The Italian side have won four of their six games, losing twice. All that really matters in the Champions League group phase is finishing in the top eight positions, which they are on pace to do sitting in sixth position with two matches remaining. If Inter didn’t qualify for the top eight and finished in the playoff positions, they would consider that a disappointment. They won their first four games, but both of their losses have come in their last two fixtures against Atlético Madrid and Liverpool. A bounce-back performance on Tuesday is certainly needed.
It’s first place in the Premier League versus first place in Serie A in this one, and I’ll give the advantage to the English side. They have passed every test in the Champions League so far, have one of the deepest squads in the world and lead the Premier League by seven points. It’s almost impossible to pick against the Gunners at the moment.
