I was considering backing the home side in this one because of their recent record at Villa Park against Man City, but I couldn’t do it. Aston Villa have won each of their last two home games in this fixture, but those were results from previous seasons. Despite those two losses, the Citizens have still won three of the last five matchups between these teams.
So far in this campaign, City are by far the better team and no matter where this game is played, they have the better players on the pitch.
Through eight Premier League games, City have won five of those, drawing one and losing two. For Aston Villa, it’s been a struggle. The Villains have only won three games, drawing another three and losing two as they sit in the bottom half of the table. It’s still early, though, and much can change. This game is crucial for both teams’ seasons, but Man City will have more at stake as they try to keep up with Arsenal in the title race.
The Citizens have won eight of their 12 games in all competitions, and I think they will make it nine from 13 on Sunday.
