The move that sent Anthony Davis to the Mavericks this past February quickly became the trade heard ’round the world. Luka Doncic departed Dallas in that deal, which set the Mavs up with a top-tier big man to complement a roster which was still geared to compete in the Western Conference, albeit with a different look. However, Davis struggled with injuries and the team cratered down the stretch after a season-ender to Kyrie Irving as well. Now fully healthy, he’s ready to make some noise alongside No. 1 pick Cooper Flagg, who will start at point guard tonight.
Davis posted some very impressive numbers when healthy last season and emerged as the primary option for the Los Angeles Lakers prior to the trade, then did the same for Dallas. Over the full campaign, the big man averaged 24.7 points with 11.6 rebounds and 3.5 assists, all despite his shooting efficiency cratering to career-worst marks once he joined the Mavs (likely due to health-related reasons). Davis has now enjoyed a full offseason to get his body right and should be ready to go int he season opener.
The superstar center’s prop bet lines on DraftKings Sportsbook sit at 24.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.5 blocks and 1.5 steals. His combined PTS + REB + AST line comes in at 39.5.
Tonight brings a difficult matchup for the Mavericks’ offense as they face Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs. The young center missed the second half of last season but is once again healthy and every bit of the league-changing defender he showed prior to his absence. He’s an unbelievable talent who can create problems with his length in the paint, so one may assume Davis faces a real challenge. When digging deeper into the stats though, Davis has averaged 30.8 points and 12.4 rebounds in five games against Wembanyama in his career. In three meetings last season, Davis also scored 40, 19, and 30 points while hauling in 12, 14, and 13 rebounds.
Granted, all of those games came with the Lakers rather than the Mavericks. Still, Davis’ size and strength are enough to battle with Wembanyama down low and potentially provide an edge. Over 24.5 points and over 10.5 rebounds both feel quite obtainable, but the scoring prop may be the better call since Davis will play the four alongside Dereck Lively II at center tonight.
