UPDATE: Adebayo will not return on Monday.
In the third quarter of Monday’s preseason game against the Atlanta Hawks, Adebayo went up for a layup in transition and turned his ankle when he landed. He is now questionable to return but the official designation is a right knee contusion.
Prior to exiting, Adebayo played 19 minutes and contributed 13 points, nine rebounds and three assists but only shot 4-of-11 from the field, 0-of-3 from downtown and 5-of-7 from the free throw line.
Jaime Jaquez Jr. was the substitute for Adebayo.
Miami has one last preseason game on Friday against the Memphis Grizzlies before next Wednesday’s season opener against the Orlando Magic.
It’s highly unlikely that Adebayo plays on Friday, so Kel’el Ware should see the bulk of the playing time at center. Precious Achiuwa and Vladislav Goldin are also candidates to see playing time and could get extended run if Erik Spoelstra decides to limit Ware as well.
