Theo Johnson ($5,800 for Showdown) has become a strong fantasy asset for the Giants with Jaxson Dart ($10,200) under center and Malik Nabers (knee) sidelined. With Dart starting at quarterback the last two weeks and Nabers essentially inactive for both these contests – he only played 32.4% of the snaps in New York’s second-to-last game before going down with the season-ending knee injury – Johnson has produced 10.7 and 21.3 FPTS, making him the No. 5 scoring tight end during this time.
During this span, the tight end is running a route on 72% of his team’s dropbacks and he is handling a 20.3% target share, which is tied for the highest on the team with Wan’Dale Robinson ($7,200). Notably, Johnson has garnered a team-high five red-zone targets and he has seen two targets over 20 yards.
As you can see, Johnson’s role has been immense and it could become even stronger this Thursday vs. the Eagles, with Darius Slayton (hamstring) not expected to play, per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.
Slayton has seen a 16.9% target share in these past two games sans Nabers and with Slayton joining Nabers on the sidelines, Johnson could be very busy in this NFC East matchup.
Philadelphia has been stingy against tight ends this season, giving up the third-fewest receiving yards to the position (141), but Johnson’s large expected role makes him a strong target regardless of the matchup, especially when you consider the Giants will likely be forced to throw it a ton as seven-point underdogs on DraftKings Sportsbook. In this situation, Johnson has a great chance to score double-digit FPTS and finish as a top-10 tight end for Week 6.
