What happened to Oneil Cruz? Live injury updates for Pirates vs. Reds 9/24/25

In the bottom of the eighth inning of Wednesday’s game against the Cincinnati Reds, Oneil Cruz tracked a well-hit ball off the bat of Noelvi Marte to straight away center. As he attempted to catch the ball, Cruz jumped and planted his left foot halfway up the wall. He immediately crumpled down onto the warning track.

He was removed due to a left ankle injury.

Prior to exiting, Cruz went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts. Jack Suwinski was the substitute.

The Pirates are 68-89 with four regular season games left in the season. It’s likely that Cruz is done for the season.
