The Tennessee Titans are signing free agent wide receiver Tyler Boyd, per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. Boyd will join a wide receiver room consisting of veteran DeAndre Hopkins and fellow free agent signee Calvin Ridley. This addition likely moves former first-round pick Treylon Burks down the depth chart and could push Nick Westbrook-Ikhine into helpful depth territory. Let’s look at how this move affects the Tennessee wideouts’ fantasy value for the 2024 season.
2024 Fantasy Football Impact
Will Levis
Like most wide receivers, their respective floor and ceiling outlooks depend on the quarterback they have under center. For Tennessee, it is expected to be second-year QB Will Levis. He played in nine games as a rookie, completing 58.4% of his passes for 1,808 yards with eight touchdowns and four interceptions. It is worth pointing out that he threw four of his touchdowns in his first game against the Atlanta Falcons and then just four more over the remaining eight games. Still, Levis is expected to take a step forward with another offseason under his belt and new head coach Brian Callahan, who spent the last five seasons as the offensive coordinator for the Cincinnati Bengals. Levis shouldn’t be drafted unless you are in a 32-team league, but it is worth keeping tabs on the waiver wire in case he has a favorable matchup and has shown that step forward.
Calvin Ridley
Ridley was arguably Tennessee’s biggest offseason acquisition. They gave the 29-year-old a 4-year, $92 million deal that kept him from re-signing with the Titans’ AFC South rival Jacksonville Jaguars. Ridley had a great season after being suspended for the entire 2022 season due to gambling. He played in all 17 games for Jacksonville and had 76 receptions for 1,016 yards and eight touchdowns. His fantasy outlook depends on how much of a step forward Levis takes, but it’s hard to think that he has a monumentally better season than he did with Trevor Lawrence last year. He finished as the WR17 in half-PPR scoring last season, and that should be the height of where he finishes this year, dropping if Levis stinks or if Boyd ends up with more targets than predicted.
DeAndre Hopkins
Hopkins will be entering his 12th NFL season. Last year, he played in every game and finished with 1,057 yards and seven touchdowns on 75 receptions from Levis, Malik Willis and Ryan Tannehill. Hopkins finished as the overall WR22, which should fall now that Ridley and Boyd are in town. Ridley should be able to sustain his numbers since he had Christian Kirk and Zay Jones competing for targets last season, whereas Hopkins really only had tight end Chigoziem Okonkwo and running back Derrick Henry. Hopkins was a borderline WR2 in 2023, and I think he falls to the WR3 range with the possibility of WR4 if Levis struggles.
Tyler Boyd
Boyd is used to being the third wide receiver in an offense. In fact, for the last few seasons, he has played that role with the Bengals in Callahan’s offense. Boyd was battling it out with Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins for targets and notably wasn’t able to take a step forward when they dealt with injuries last season. He is a solid complementary wide receiver, but he isn’t going to be someone that you want to rely on in fantasy football. Boyd played in every game last year and had 667 yards and two touchdowns on 67 receptions. He finished as the overall WR51 and will likely hover around there this year, even with his familiarity with the offensive scheme. There are just too many mouths to feed in the Tennessee offense with a second-year quarterback to trust him.
