One of the greatest tag teams in professional wrestling history, Adam Copeland and Christian Cage, recently reunited and had their first match with each other in 14 years at AEW Forbidden Door. They defeated Killswitch and Kip Sabian and now have their sights set on Copeland’s former friends, FTR.
For many years, Adam Copeland became very close friends with Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler. They grew extremely close and played a pivotal role in Copeland’s return from his major injuries in the past. Their friendship translated to AEW television but only lasted from December 2024 to April 2025 because FTR attacked Copeland at Dynasty.
While this match between Copeland and Cage vs. FTR isn’t for a Championship, it has arguably been the best story on AEW throughout the past few months. If Copeland and Cage can get past FTR, who are one of the greatest tag teams in the world, they can begin their hunt for tag team gold of their own in AEW.
Adam Copeland & Christian Cage’s history in Toronto
Copeland and Cage have had a decorated history in their hometown of Toronto, Canada, but have not competed alongside each other in tag team competition since February 1999, when they defeated The Hardy Boyz. Copeland has wrestled in 12 matches in Toronto, with notable matches taking place at WrestleMania X8, SummerSlam 2004, and Unforgiven 2006. Cage has competed in nine matches in his home city and was also on WrestleMania X8 in Toronto.
The last time the two competed in Toronto, they faced each other in an I Quit Match for the TNT Championship. But this time, for the first time in over 26 years, Copeland and Cage will return home on the same team and undoubtedly will receive an unbelievable welcome from the audience.
