TreVeyon Henderson ($5,500) had a solid NFL debut in last Sunday’s season opener vs. the Raiders. The second-round pick out of Ohio State rushed five times for 27 yards and he caught all six of his targets for 24 yards (11.1 FPTS). Rhamondre Stevenson ($5,000) got the start over Henderson, but Stevenson was less effective, rushing seven times for 15 yards and catching two of his three targets for 12 yards (4.7 FPTS).
Both players saw one red zone carry, but Stevenson had the edge in ground work, as he handled 53.8% of the running back carries and logged 64.8% of the snaps, while Henderson saw 38.5% of the carries and logged 35.2% of the snaps. Stevenson also ran 23 routes, compared to 18 for Henderson, but the rookie garnered a target on 33% of his routes, whereas Stevenson was only targeted on 13% of his. Fantasy wise, Stevenson only generated 0.1 FPTS per snap, while Henderson was terrific with 0.44 FPTS per snap, which ranked ninth among all running backs in Week 1.
Stevenson seeing more work than Henderson in the rookie’s first-career wasn’t a surprise and Stevenson being far less productive than Henderson also wasn’t a surprise. While it may take some time for Henderson to fully leap-frog Stevenson on the depth chart, Henderson should see more volume every week and this Sunday’s matchup vs. the Dolphins sets up well for the promising rookie.
Miami gave up 33 points to the Colts in Week 1 and the Dolphins are the lowest graded defense on PFF after this terrible showing. This is a perfect spot for Henderson to have a breakout performance and he is a strong RB2 for season-long leagues and an elite GPP play for DFS. For betting, backing Henderson for over 37.5 rushing yards (-113) on DraftKings Sportsbook also makes a ton of sense in this beautiful spot.
