Golf Best Bets: Top longshot golf picks for the Genesis Scottish Open

We travel to the Renaissance Club (par 70, 7,237 yards, fescue greens) in North Berwick, Scotland, for the Genesis Scottish Open. This is a 156-man field, with half the players from the PGA TOUR and half the players from the DP World TOUR. There will be a standard top-65 and ties cut after the first rounds and below, I have featured two of my favorite longshot outright bets to win the Genesis Scottish Open on DraftKings Sportsbook.

Si Woo Kim (+7500)

Si Woo Kim finished T-26 at the Renaissance Club last season and he is coming off a T-11 at the John Deere Classic. At TPC Deere Run, Kim carded two 6-under 65s and he finished top-five in SGT2G, SG APP and SG ARG. Kim has produced nine top-25 finishes this season, most notably with T-8 finishes at the RBC Heritage and PGA Championship, both of which featured world-class fields. Kim will face another stacked field at the Renaissance Club this week and he has proven he can win when facing the stiffest competition, with a victory at THE PLAYERS Championship in 2017 on his resume.

Kim has four PGA TOUR wins to his name and him rejoining the winner’s circle is a possibility at the Renaissance Club. Strong drivers of the golf ball have had an advantage at this venue, with each of the last three winners finishing the event top-15 in SG OTT and Kim fits this mold, as he ranks 39th in SG OTT this season. Kim also ranks 14th in proximity to the hole on approach shots from 175-200 yards out this season, which is excellent news for the Renaissance Club, as a huge 25.4% of approach shots at this venue over the last five years have come from this distance.

Kim’s downfall this season has been his putting – the veteran ranks 145th in SGP – but there is a chance his flat stick finds some life this week, as these slow, fescue greens at the Renaissance Club are a big change from the usual fast putting surfaces Kim faces regularly on the PGA TOUR. The 30-year-old always has winning upside if his putter complies and Kim is worth taking a chance on at these long +7500 odds.

Maverick McNealy (+7500)

Maverick McNealy has been very close to winning many times this season. The 29-year-old has finished inside the top-five four times and three of these high finishes came at Signature Events, which featured the PGA TOUR’s best players competing for a $20 million purse. This season, McNealy has made 15-of-18 cuts with seven top-25 finishes and he ranks 27th in total strokes gained.

McNealy has competed at the Renaissance Club once in 2022 and that week, he had an impressive Genesis Scottish Open debut, finishing T-16. McNealy now returns to the links track 66 spots higher in the world golf rankings at No. 16. Plus, he ranks eighth in 450-500-yard par four efficiency when we compare this field’s last 50 rounds, making him a great match for the Renaissance Club, as five of the 10 par fours at this par 70 fall between 450-500 yards.

Ranking top-50 in SGT2G, SG OTT, SG APP and SGP this season, McNealy is a very well-balanced player that is ready to secure his second victory on the PGA TOUR and these +7500 odds are simply too long for his talent.
