UPDATE: Muncy has been placed on the IL with a left knee bone bruise.

In the sixth inning of Wednesday’s game against the Chicago White Sox, Max Muncy injured his left leg after tagging the runner out on an attempted steal of third base. The throw from the catcher took him slightly into the field of play, which caused him to collide with the sliding White Sox player.

Enrique Hernandez was the substitute.

Prior to exiting, Muncy went 0-for-2.

After a rough start to the season, Muncy started wearing glasses on April 30th. Since then, he’s slashed .286/.414/.553 with a .267 ISO. The walk rate was 17.7%, strikeout rate was 16.7% and average exit velocity was 92.6 mph. That translated to 12 home runs, 32 runs, 50 RBI and four stolen bases.

Miguel Rojas will likely man third base if Muncy is out for an extended period of time. In 115 plate appearances this season, Rojas is slashing .250/.289/.380 with a .130 ISO. It’s a huge offensive downgrade.
