MLB Picks: Player Props and Team Props for Wednesday, July 2, 2025
Tomoyuki Sugano under 17.5 outs recoeded -125 vs. Texas Rangers
Six innings of work from Sugano feels a bit ambitious. He has gone under this total in five of his last six starts, last pitching six innings nearly a month ago on June 3rd. In those five other starts, he hasn’t gone beyond 5.1 innings. Tonight, he’ll face a Rangers team that just scored 10 runs last night and is averaging 5.8 runs over its last five games. Sugano is coming off a brutal month of June, during which he posted a 6.20 ERA, allowed a .396 wOBA, and gave up six of the 17 home runs he’s surrendered this season. Against one of the hottest offenses in the league right now, it’s hard to imagine Sugano making it through six innings.
Byron Buxton 2+ total bases -105 vs. Miami Marlins
We’re getting close to even money on a player who’s averaging over two total bases per game. Through 68 games, Buxton is averaging 2.2 bases as he continues to mash the ball. Tonight, he’ll face Marlins starter Janson Junk, whose two primary pitches align well with Buxton’s strengths. Junk throws a four-seam fastball and a slider a combined 66% of the time. Against those pitches, Buxton has posted a .377 wOBA and a .250 ISO against the four-seam, and a .401 wOBA with a .281 ISO against the slider. Batting in the leadoff spot only helps, giving him the maximum number of plate appearances. I feel confident about this bet—especially with odds close to even money.
Austin Gomber under 14.5 outs recorded +110
Gomber is a pitcher I frequently target, and it usually pays off. His outs recorded total is a short one, set at 14.5, but I still believe he’ll go under that mark tonight with the game taking place at Coors Field. The weather works in our favor—it’ll be hot and humid with winds blowing out toward left field. Gomber has been as bad as advertised, sporting a 6.14 ERA, a 6.95 xERA, and a 5.68 FIP. Most of the damage came in one start against the Diamondbacks, when he allowed nine runs over 4.2 innings. However, his advanced metrics suggest his other two recent starts could have gone much worse as well. I’m expecting a short night on the mound for Gomber.
