UPDATE: Imaging showed no fracture for Peña.

In the second inning of Friday’s game against the Chicago Cubs, Jeremy Peña was hit in the side by a pitch. He remained in the game but then was replaced in the top of the sixth inning.

Prior to exiting, Peña went 0-for-2. He was replaced by Mauricio Dubon.

Peña has not missed a game this season, contributing 11 home runs, 48 runs, 40 RBI and 15 stolen bases. He’s slashing .324/.379/.492 with a .168 ISO. The BABIP is an elevated .363, so he has been fortunate. After batting between fourth and sixth in the batting order, Peña has been the Astros leadoff hitter since late April.

If he’s out for an extended period of time, Jose Altuve would likely go back to the leadoff spot.

As for Dubon, he’s produced five home runs, 19 runs, 18 RBI and two stolen bases in 163 plate appearances. The slash is .245/.286/.404 with a respectable .159 ISO. He has a career .121 ISO, though, and the average exit velocity is only 84.9 mph with a 30.4% hard hit rate, so the power can’t be trusted.
