Seven-time Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic takes on Alexandre Muller in the first-round at the All England Club on Monday.
Let’s preview the match through the lens of the DraftKings Sportsbook.
Novak Djokovic vs. Alexandre Muller preview
Novak Djokovic is arguably the greatest player in the history of men’s tennis. He holds the all-time record with 24 Grand Slam titles, including seven Wimbledon titles. Djokovic is just one Wimbledon title behind Roger Federer for the record on the men’s side. He has made it to each of the past two Wimbledon finals, but lost to Carlos Alcaraz in both. Djokovic would love to get one more Wimbledon title before his career comes to an end, but the clock is ticking. He is still one of the best players in the world, but Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have proven to be better over the last few Grand Slams. In 2023, Djokovic won three Grand Slams and reached the final at Wimbledon, proving he was still the best player in the world. However, over the past six Grand Slams, he has made just one final, and that was at Wimbledon last year. He has made the semifinals of both Grand Slams in 2025, but lost to Alexander Zverev in Australia and Jannik Sinner at Roland Garros.
Djokovic’s opponent in the first-round at Wimbledon is Alexandre Muller. The 28-year-old Frenchman is currently the 40th-ranked player in the world. Muller has been on a steady rise the past few seasons, cracking into the top 100 in 2023, upsetting a top 10 player for the first time in 2024, and making it to a career-high ranking of 39th earlier this year after winning his first-ever ATP Tour title. Muller has never made it further than the second-round in a Grand Slam before, and has lost in the first-round of each of the two Grand Slams of this year. He hopes to make a name for himself in the tennis world by knocking off the legendary Novak Djokovic in this game.
Djokovic vs. Muller pick, best bet
Novak Djokovic and Alexandre Muller have only faced off once in their career. That was also in the opening round of a Grand Slam, at the 2023 US Open. In that match, Djokovic defeated Muller in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2, 6-3. At that time, Djokovic was the best player in the world, and Muller was not nearly as good a player as he is now.
That being said, Djokovic asserted that he can dominate a player like Muller. Djokovic should overtake Muller from the jump, which is why my best bet is for Djokovic to win the first set by more than 3.5 games. He won two of three sets by that margin the first time they faced off, and he should be ready to dominate again. At Roland Garros, Djokovic won his first four matches in straight sets, all against inferior talent, so he is still capable of domination in these types of matches.
