UPDATE: Rutschman apparently underwent an MRI for his sore abdomen on Saturday morning, though the results have not yet been announced.

Adley Rutschman was a late scratch on Friday due to “left abdominal tightness.” There’s been no mention of when the injury occurred or the severity of it. Rutschman was in the lineup on Thursday night, going 0-for-5. Jackson Holliday will replace Rutschman at DH on Friday and bat leadoff.

In 275 plate appearances this season, Holliday is slashing .253/.302/.405 with a 5.1% walk rate, 23.6% strikeout rate and .152 ISO.

Gary Sanchez is the backup catcher and is batting sixth on Friday. Sanchez is slashing .171/.255/.317 with a 2.1% walk rate, 27.7% strikeout rate and .146 ISO in 47 plate appearances. The BABIP is only .185, so there’s been some bad luck. That said, if Rutschman is out for an extended period of time, it’s a significant blow to the Orioles lineup.
