The Mets are in first place in the NL East with a 45-27 record, while the Braves have struggled this season, going 31-39. The Mets won six straight contests before they were swept by the Tampa Bay Rays. Good news for the Mets is that they haven’t suffered four consecutive defeats this season and haven’t done so since May 2024.
New York is 18-17 on the road this season, the sixth-best in the MLB. The Mets have Peterson starting tonight. This year, he has gone 5-2 with a 2.49 ERA (5th in MLB). He is coming off a performance in which he pitched a nine-inning complete game shutout against the Washington Nationals. The Braves have had a tough time against Peterson, as they are batting .226 as a team.
Mets slugger, Pete Alonso, has had an incredible season batting .293, with 17 home runs, and 63 RBIs. He is first in RBIs, 10th in home runs, and 21st in average. Although Braves starter Schwellenbach is coming off a win in which he pitched nine innings, he has allowed four-plus runs in three of his last five starts.

Juan Soto has four home runs this month, with two coming in the last week. If the Mets can get their all-star trio of Soto, Alonso, and Francisco Lindor to produce at a high level, they have a great chance to beat anyone each night.
After getting shut out 9-0 in their last game, it is doubtful they will continue to struggle offensively. The Mets scored five runs and picked up a victory the last time they went scoreless this season.
