The 2024 NFL Draft gets underway on Thursday, April 25. Thursday’s coverage of the draft will span the entire first round. The Draft will continue on Friday with the second and third rounds, and the remainder of the draft will finish on Saturday. The first round is expected to kick off with the Chicago Bears selecting USC QB Caleb Williams, but the beauty of the draft is that anything can happen.
The high variability of the draft is what makes it exciting. Williams is all but assured to be the first overall pick, but after that mock drafts from analysts are all over the place. At one point, the thought was that the quarterbacks worthy of a first-round grade in this year’s class were only Williams, Drake Maye and Jayden Daniels. Just a day before the actual draft, both Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport forecast that six quarterbacks will be selected in the first.
The majority of the first round is expected to be offensive linemen and cornerbacks, with running backs likely being absent entirely, but again, anything can happen. It may be recency bias, but it feels like an abnormally high number of trades are being mocked in the first round, which adds to the excitement.
