We head to Oakmont Country Club (par 70, 7,372 yards, POA annua greens) in Oakmont, Pennsylvania for the U.S. Open this week. Matt Fitzpartick to make the cut
Fitzpatrick has been very successful at the U.S. Open throughout his career. The Englishman won the 2022 U.S. Open at the Country Club and he has only missed one cut in 10 starts at this major. Fitzpatrick finished T54 at Oakmont in 2016 and his nine made cuts at the U.S. Open is tied for the seventh-most in this field. Having previous experience at Oakmont is a huge advantage for Fitzpatrick and the always reliable veteran is a very safe bet to make the cut in his return to the par 70. Entering this week, Fitzpatrick has advanced to the weekend in 18 of his last 22 starts worldwide.
Keegan Bradley to make the cut
Up next is Bradley, who has only missed two cuts in his last 27 starts. Most recently, Bradley has finished T8 at the PGA Championship and T7 at the Memorial Tournament in his last two starts. The former FedEx Cup champion missed the cut at Oakmont in 2016, but Bradley is a totally different class of player now. The 39-year-old is the No. 18 ranked player in the world, which is 91 spots higher than when he faced Oakmont nine years ago. Bradley ranks third in SGT2G this season and he ranks 19th in total driving, making him a strong match for Oakmont, which is a long venue that favors strong drivers of the golf ball.
Sungjae Im to miss the cut
With Oakmont a very challenging venue and the U.S. Open featuring a slightly limited cut compared to a standard PGA TOUR event, targeting a player to miss the cut makes a ton of sense this week. Im has been struggling by his standards and him being sent home early from Oakmont this week feels likely. Im has failed to make the cut in two of his past three starts and he has lost strokes on approach at 10 straight events. Im ranks 177th of 179 golfers in SG APP this season, which is terrible news for Oakmont. When Dustin Johnson won at this course in 2016, he led his field in GIR. Im has missed three straight cuts at the U.S. Open and, with his irons in putrid form, Im is a strong bet to miss the cut at the demanding Oakmont.
