San Francisco Giants vs. Atlanta Braves prediction, pick for Sunday 6/8/25

Sunday afternoon’s clash between the Atlanta Braves and the San Francisco Giants is setting up to be a tense, low-scoring affair. With the Braves reeling from a six-game losing streak, Spencer Strider is looking to right the ship and finally get a win. The Giants, however, are in solid form, winners of four of their last five games, and Landen Roupp has been nearly untouchable at home. Below, I’ve got my preview, prediction, and best bet for this Sunday night baseball game between the Giants and the Braves.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

Giants vs. Braves prediction, preview

Spencer Strider (0-4, 5.68 ERA) has been inconsistent at best this season. His strikeout stuff is still elite, averaging 9.0 K/9, but he’s given up five home runs in just 19 innings of work. Strider has historically been dominant against the Giants, with a 2-1 record and a 3.57 ERA in four starts against them, but that was before this season’s struggles. With his velocity sitting comfortably at 97 mph, the question isn’t whether he can miss bats—it’s whether he can limit the long ball and command his pitches. In a park that suppresses home runs and with conditions favoring pitchers, Strider could still find success if he can avoid the mistakes that have cost him so far.

On the other hand, Landen Roupp (3-4, 3.18 ERA) has been a revelation for the Giants. He’s not overpowering—his 8.8 K/9 is solid but not spectacular—but Roupp’s command and ground-ball ability make him a tough customer. In his last four starts, he’s allowed just one earned run over 22.1 innings, including a scoreless outing against San Diego. He’s been particularly effective at home, where his ERA drops to 1.64 across four starts. While this will be his first career start against Atlanta, Roupp’s ability to limit damage and work around adversity should keep the Braves’ struggling offense in check.

The Braves’ lineup has shown flashes but remains mired in inconsistency. Austin Riley and Matt Olson have provided power, but their collective .243 batting average and lack of clutch hitting have plagued the offense. As a team, the Braves have failed to score more than four runs in nine of their last 10 games. Their biggest weapon, however, remains the long ball—Riley, Olson, and Marcell Ozuna have each hit 10+ home runs this season. But with Roupp’s penchant for generating ground balls, that power could be negated today.

Meanwhile, the Giants’ offense hasn’t been much better, ranking 22nd in MLB in slugging percentage (.369). Heliot Ramos and Matt Chapman have been the key contributors, with Ramos slashing .295 with a .361 OBP, while Chapman has crushed 12 homers. Still, this is a team that averages just 4.1 runs per game and is often reliant on their pitching staff to carry them. With Roupp on the mound and the Giants’ bullpen being one of the best in the league (2.38 ERA), the offense won’t need to do much more than scratch out a couple of runs to secure a win.

Braves vs. Giants pick, best bet

The under has hit in 13 of San Francisco’s last 15 games and 8 of Atlanta’s last 11 road games. Moreover, the under has cashed in six of the last eight head-to-head meetings between these two teams, for whatever that’s worth. With both teams struggling to score and two strong pitchers on the mound, it’s hard to see this game turning into a slugfest.

In conclusion, I’m locking in the under on 7.5 runs for this game. The pitching matchups favor a tight, low-scoring battle, and with both teams having been underachieving offensively, I expect another game where runs are hard to come by. Don’t expect a high-scoring shootout here—this one will be a grind, and the under is the clear value.

Best bet: Giants vs. Braves u7.5 total runs (-110)
