Chicago Cubs at Detroit Tigers prediction, pick for Saturday 6/7/25

This is the second game of a three-game series in Detroit.

Jameson Taillon is scheduled to pitch for Chicago while Keider Montero should get the nod for Detroit.

Cubs at Tigers prediction, preview

Jameson Taillon is 5-3 with a 3.76 ERA. He’s good, right? In my best Lee Corso voice, “Not so fast.” The strikeout rate is only 19.2%. While that’s not great, Taillon has never been a robust strikeout pitcher. The issues are the 16 home runs allowed in 69.1 innings in addition to the .211 BABIP and 84% strand rate. The 11.9% barrel rate is a career-worst. Translation? Taillon has been very lucky as evidenced by his 5.11 FIP.

As for splits, righties have had slightly more success against him while he’s been an equal-opportunity server of long balls, as both righties and lefties have blasted eight each. Taillon has been much better at home than on the road, where the FIP is 6.48.

Taillon has allowed more than three earned runs twice. He’s allowed at least one earned run in every start, but two or fewer in eight contests.

Against right-handed pitching, the Tigers have struck out at the third-highest rate while having the 14th-best ISO. The wOBA is 15th-best in MLB.

Keider Montero isn’t allowing hard contact, but he also isn’t missing bats. In addition, he’s walked 16 batters in 40.1 innings. His 4.02 ERA is not supported by the 4.74 FIP.

Lefties have been a problem for Montero. The FIP is 6.38 and he’s shown no bias towards allowing runs either at home or on the road.

Montero has allowed five earned runs in two starts this season. In his two most recent, though, he’s shut out the Royals and Giants in 4.2 and 5.0 innings, respectively.

The Cubs have struck out at the 24th-highest rate against right-handed pitching while being fourth in ISO. The wOBA is fourth-best.

As for bullpens, Chicago has the 11th-lowest FIP while Detroit has the 13th-lowest.

Cubs at Tigers pick, best bet

Both pitchers hav been good recently but I think their fates change for the worse on Saturday. Taillon struggles on the road while the Cubs have some potent lefties in the lineup.

Best Bet: Over 8.5 runs (-114)

Stan joined DraftKings in December of 2020. It was a glorious time, except for that whole COVID thing, when we got Madden streams and boisterous bat flips from the KBO. I was brought on board to bring some West Coast flavor. I especially love hoops, and most of my content is in that arena. When I walk along the beach, strumming my guitar, the beat that I hear is not one of crashing waves. No, it is the beat of the ball bouncing off the hardwood with highs provided by the squeaks of the sneakers. Ball is life.
