This will be the third game of a four-game series at Dodger Stadium.
Griffin Canning is scheduled to pitch for New York, while Tony Gonsolin will take the mound for Los Angeles.
Mets at Dodgers prediction, preview
Griffin Canning is in the midst of a career-best season in his first year in New York. Canning has been a mediocre starter for most of his career and particularly struggled last season, leading the American League in earned runs. However, so far this season, Canning has a 3.23 ERA and is allowing an opponent OPS of .694. If he sustains this level of play the whole season, both of those numbers would be by far the best of his career. Canning also has a solid career history against some of the most dangerous bats in this Dodgers lineup. Shohei Ohtani, Freddie Freeman, Tommy Edman and Max Muncy are a combined 2-for-24 in their careers against Canning. If he can keep those bats in check, he should be able to survive against this scary Dodgers lineup.
Once Canning is done, the Mets have one of the best bullpens in baseball to try to keep the Dodgers in check. The New York bullpen has a 2.86 ERA this season, the second-best mark in baseball. The Mets have multiple trusted arms they can go to, including Edwin Diaz, who should be rested after not pitching on Tuesday night. If the Mets can conjure a couple of runs and Canning does his job, this bullpen should be able to carry the Mets to a win.
Tony Gonsolin has struggled so far this season. Gonsolin is sporting a 5.23 ERA and has been particularly shaky over his last three starts. Gonsolin has given up at least four runs in all three of those starts, with one of them coming against the Mets. When these teams met in New York, Gonsolin gave up four runs to New York in five innings of action. Juan Soto had an RBI double in that game, contributing to Soto’s .400 career batting average against Gonsolin. However, Gonsolin has been able to keep the likes of Brandon Nimmo and Francisco Lindor in check over the years. If Gonsolin can find a bit of stability and just give the Dodgers a few solid innings, they will have a chance to win this game.
Mets at Dodgers pick, best bet
The first two games of the Mets and Dodgers series have been thrilling. Both games have gone to extra innings, with each team taking one win. Due to the closeness of both games, I am including the Mets +1.5 in my same-game parlay bet. While Canning has been the superior starting pitcher this season, this Dodgers lineup is just a murderers’ row. Los Angeles should still get a couple of runs on the board against the Mets’ starter. Gonsolin has also been vulnerable this season and couldn’t contain the Mets last time they faced off. They should be able to put up a couple of runs as well. This should be another tight game that comes down to the bullpens. However, I expect the pitchers to win a majority of the battles and keep this game under the total. So, my best bet for this game is the Mets +1.5 parlayed with under 10 runs.
