The Mets and Dodgers head into Game 3 of their exciting series out west on Wednesday night. Both prior games have been thrilling, with each team picking up a win. These two teams faced off in the 2024 NLCS and they are looking like two of the best teams in the National League yet again. One major difference from last year’s playoff series is the addition of Juan Soto to the Mets. The Mets acquired Soto during the offseason to try to get to over that hump and be able to defeat the Dodgers in the postseason. So far this regular season, the Mets have held their own against the Dodgers, winning three out of five games against them. Wednesday night’s matchup should be another great game as the Mets trot out Griffin Canning, while Tony Gonsolin will be on the bump for the Dodgers.
Juan Soto has 15 career at-bats against Gonsolin, and he has fared very well over the years. Soto is 6-for-15 in the matchup, with three of those hits going for extra bases. Soto should feel confident heading into this spot against Gonsolin, especially with his game rounding into form over the past few days. It was a slow start to the season by Juan Soto’s standards, and some people started to get concerned about the $765 million man. There were questions around how motivated and focused he would be now that he has signed his widely lucrative long-term contract. However, recently, Juan Soto is looking like one of the scariest hitters in baseball once again. Over his last five games, Soto is batting .333 with three home runs, five RBIs and five runs scored. That includes Soto’s two-run homer off of Clayton Kershaw last night.
My favorite prop for this game is for Juan Soto to record at least two hits + runs + RBI. Soto is on a five-game hitting streak and has a .400 career batting average against Tony Gonsolin. He should, at the very least, get one hit off the Dodgers’ right-handed starter. Ideally, Soto could drive in a run with his first hit. However, it is more likely that Soto will get driven in once he gets on base. Soto has the benefit of having Pete Alonso, who has been having an incredible season, behind him in the lineup. That is part of the reason that Soto has scored 39 runs in 2025, just behind Francisco Lindor for the team lead, and tied for the 14th-most in all of baseball. Soto should have another productive day and, with the bats around him, should get over this number against the Dodgers.
