The RBC Canadian Open is being played at TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley. The RBC Canadian Open is one of the longest-running events on the PGA TOUR. This will be the first time TPC Toronto has ever hosted this event. TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley is a par 70 golf course and ranges 7,389 yards, one of the longest courses on the PGA TOUR. The course requires a strategic approach from players due to the tough bunker placement and tricky chipping areas around the greens. There will be a full field of 156 players with a standard cut after Friday’s round. This field will be headlined by Rory McIlroy, who makes his first start since the PGA Championship. Other top players in the field include Ludvig Aberg, Shane Lowry and Justin Rose, along with the hometown Canadian favorites, Nick Taylor and Corey Conners. Scottie Scheffler, along with many other top players, is taking the week off to rest before next week’s US Open.
Rory McIlroy ($11,900)
Rory McIlroy is the most expensive player in the field this week, for good reason. Most notably, Scottie Scheffler is not in the field this week after winning The Memorial last week. Scheffler has seemed unbeatable over the past few weeks, so the field is now open to everybody else. It has also been a phenomenal season for McIlroy. Of course, he completed the career grand slam by winning The Masters in April. However, he also won THE PLAYERS and Pebble Beach earlier this season. McIlroy has finished T-17 or better in every tournament he has played in this season until his disappointing performance at the PGA Championship. Rory McIlroy will want to avoid another poor major performance at the US Open next week, so this will be a great tune-up for him.
TPC Toronto is a bomber’s course, where the longest players off the tee will have a big advantage. McIlroy has been the best player on TOUR in strokes gained off the tee this season and second in strokes gained total. All of his metrics are off the charts this season, and if he plays his best golf, he should have a great chance to win. McIlroy has always played great at the RBC Canadian Open. In four career starts in Canada, he has won twice and finished T-4 and T-7. With his great form this season, ideal course fit and incredible history at the RBC Canadian Open, you can’t afford to leave McIlroy out of your DFS lineups. Scottie Scheffler dominated last week and it could be McIlroy’s turn to pick up another win before heading to the US Open. McIlroy should be the centerpiece of any DFS lineup, with longer shots sprinkled around him.
