The Twins have been on absolute fire, winning 14 of their last 16 games, including 9-1 at home during that span. They’re positively the talk of the AL Central town! In come the Kansas City Royals, who enter tonight’s matchup against the Minnesota Twins as sizable underdogs, but carry value with Bobby Witt and their pitching tonight. Enough value, though? Below, I’ve got my preview, prediction, and best bet for this Friday night baseball game between the Twins and the Royals.
Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.
Twins vs. Royals prediction, preview
On the mound for Minnesota, Pablo Lopez stands as a formidable challenge. The right-hander owns a 2.40 ERA this season and has consistently dominated Kansas City’s lineup. Lopez is 5-1 with a 2.23 ERA in his career against the Royals. Kansas City’s offense remains fun but subpar; they struggle to score consistently. With a .245 team batting average and just a .300 OBP, the Royals tend to flail against top-tier arms, making this an uphill battle. The Royals’ reliance on Bobby Witt Jr. and Vinnie Pasquantino remains a critical factor, but the production simply isn’t there from the rest of the order.
Noah Cameron, making his third start of the season, has been nothing short of electric. With a 0.71 ERA and 0.63 WHIP across 12.2 innings, he’s shown elite control and poise, even against strong lineups. However, the Twins’ lineup is not easily stifled, even with some key players missing. Minnesota has been quietly explosive, ranking 9th in wRC+ over the past week (112), highlighting their capacity to break through even against quality pitching.
Cameron’s small sample size might be alluring, but it’s risky to trust a rookie left-hander against a proven Minnesota offense that still holds an edge in depth and power. Even without Buxton’s and Correa’s production, the Twins’ .312 team OBP and 45 home runs speak to a lineup that can take advantage of even the smallest pitching mistakes. It’s wildly impressive. The Royals, while solid defensively, rank near the bottom in scoring, averaging just 3.4 runs per game this season—something they’ll need to improve if they hope to beat Minnesota’s ace.
The pitching advantage lies firmly with Lopez and the Twins’ bullpen. Minnesota has been strong in high-leverage situations, posting a 3.28 ERA (4th in MLB). Kansas City’s bullpen, while decent, has struggled to hold leads in tight games. With the Royals’ inability to generate consistent offense, it’s hard to envision them overcoming a Twins squad that’s 13-2 in their last 15 games.
Royals vs. Twins pick, best bet
The Twins have won 10 of their last 11 games against Kansas City at Target Field following a loss. Conversely, the Royals have lost 22 of their last 23 games at Target Field after a win. Their struggles on the road have been well-documented, and while Cameron has shown flashes, he’s not yet proven enough to outduel Lopez in a pressure-packed division matchup.
The Twins have been volcanically hot, and their recent run shows no signs of slowing. Take the Twins to win by more than 1.5 runs—this team is on fire and playing a Royals squad that hasn’t yet found its rhythm away from home. Let’s bet on the ticket-cashers to keep cashing tickets.
Best bet: Twins -1.5 (+115) vs. Royals
