Baltimore Ravens release kicker Justin Tucker

Kicker Justin Tucker’s legendary 13-year run with the Baltimore Ravens has come to an end. The team released him Monday afternoon, according to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

It had seemed like the writing was on the wall for Tucker for several weeks. He became the subject of controversy when he was accused by more than 16 massage therapists in the Baltimore area of inappropriate behavior, off the heels of what had been the worst season of his career. Although his 89.1% career mark is an NFL record, he made just 73.3% of his field goal attempts in 2024, the seventh-worst accuracy among any qualified kicker. With growing dissatisfaction over his on-the-field play and uncertainty surrounding his alleged off-the-field conduct, the Ravens selected Arizona kicker Tyler Loop with the 186th overall pick in last week’s NFL Draft.

General Manager Eric DeCosta’s statement regarding Tucker’s release made no reference to the off-the-field allegations, calling it a “[football decision]” and thanking Tucker for his contributions to the team. Indeed, he was a five-time All-Pro First Teamer and won the Super Bowl in his rookie season, nailing all four of his field goals and all 16 of his extra-point attempts in that 2013 playoff run. Loop has big shoes to fill, but he made 83.3% of his field goal attempts with the Wildcats and a video of him nailing a 75-yard field goal in practice went viral.

Baltimore has one of the strongest rosters in the NFL, headlined by two-time league MVP Lamar Jackson, and has the third-shortest odds (+700) to win Super Bowl LX at DraftKings Sportsbook.
