UPDATE 5/5/25: Winker will be out six to eight weeks.

Jesse Winker was removed from the first game of Sunday’s doubleheader due to discomfort in his right side. He suffered the injury after making a throw to the plate from left field. Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said after the conclusion of both games that Winker will likely go on the injured list.

In 76 plate appearances this season, Winker is slashing .239/.316/.418 with a 10.5% walk rate, 26.3% strikeout rate and .179 ISO. He’s racked up one home run, one stolen base, eight runs and nine RBI. He was usually fourth or fifth in the batting order as the designated hitter, primarily utilized against right-handed pitching.

On Sunday, Winker made his first start in left field. After his exit, Jeff McNeil shifted from second base to left field, Luisangel Acuna went from third base to second base and Mark Vientos entered the game and played third base.

In the second game of the doubleheader, Juan Soto was the designated hitter.
