The field is set for the 150th running of the Kentucky Oaks at Churchill Downs on Friday, May 3 for the other big race on the first weekend in May in Louisville.
Last Saturday night, post positions were drawn and morning line odds were assigned. There was one late scratch, with the 30-1 morning line and railbird Tapit Jenallie was scratched on Thursday morning by trainer Eddie Milligan Jr. Both the outside horses in Our Pretty Woman and Candied were late adds to the field, but likely in the least-advantageous post positions of 15 and 16 thanks to the early turn in the nine-furlong Lillies for the Fillies.
The favorite heading into the race is Leslie’s Rose, trained by Louisville’s own Todd Pletcher and priced at 4-1 via the projected morning line odds from Churchill Downs linemaker Mike Battaglia. Irad Ortiz Jr. will be on the mount, and he’ll also be atop Domestic Product in the Run for the Roses on Saturday.
It’s a Grade I stakes race, with $1.5 million added for all fillies and mares with no age restriction unlike tomorrow’s Kentucky Derby, which is only for three-year-olds. And while there was a scratch, that post position will be unoccupied when the bell rings and all horses will keep their original gate.
