The NBA Play-In Tournament is back in action Wednesday night!

The Knicks and Celtics will be keeping a keen eye on tonight’s 7-8 matchup between the Heat and Sixers, as either one of those teams could pose problems in a potential first-round series.

Philadelphia 76ers vs. Miami Heat

Tyrese Maxey Over 24.5 Points (-108)

The Heat simply have no answer for Tyrese Maxey.

That’s saying something too, as Erik Spoelstra is notorious for being able to develop an effective gameplan for virtually any guy around the league. That said, when it comes to Maxey, Spo just doesn’t have a player on his roster capable of keeping up with his combination of pure speed and shiftiness with the ball.

Maxey has absolutely dominated this matchup so far in 2024, scoring at least 30 points in all three meetings with Spo’s squad. He’s also been stellar down the stretch of the regular season, hitting this over in four of his last five games while receiving a substantial usage rate.

Miami’s defensive gameplan is going to focus on containing Joel Embiid by throwing Bam Adebayo and various other players at him through doubles out of the post, while also blitzing the ball handler in P&R situations to limit Embiid’s touches out of a roll. As a result, Maxey should see plenty of opportunities in isolation and transition, where he excels.

Both squads REALLY want a win Wednesday, as a first-round matchup with the Knicks — and the path through their side of the bracket — is much more enticing than a potential series with Boston.

I expect Maxey to rack up 25 again tonight, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he goes for much more than that.
