Cleveland Guardians at Texas Rangers
The Pick: Guardians team total over 4.5 runs -110
Jack Leiter was the second overall pick in the 2021 Draft by the Rangers. He was one of the top prospects and went through the minors quickly. Since being called up, however, Leiter hasn’t looked like that talent. Granted, he’s only pitched 7.2 innings but in that span he’s already been tagged for 13 runs (11 earned) on 15 hits with three walks and six strikeouts. It also is worth noting that the teams that have tagged him with runs are the Athletics and the Tigers. Not exactly barnburner offenses.
Leiter has four pitches in his arsenal. A fastball, slider, curveball and changeup. The fastball and slider are his two main pitches, throwing them a combined 77% of the time. Both of those pitches are getting crushed by opposing hitters. Opposing hitters have a .364 batting average with a .514 wOBA against the fastball and a .500 batting average and .474 wOBA against the slider. The Rangers bullpen may not provide much relief after Leiter either. Over the past week, they’ve been hammered to the tune of a 13.87 ERA with a 7.23 FIP through 19.1 innings.

San Diego Padres vs. Colorado Rockies
The Pick: Dylan Cease over 18.5 outs recorded +145
Cease got the hell out of Chicago and is now pitching like a Cy Young candidate with the Padres. After a really rough 2023, Cease has a 2.19 ERA with an xERA of 2.77 with a 10.9 K/9 through 49.1 innings and eight starts. Tonight, he’ll face the Rockies for the second time this season, last seeing them in Colorado. Even Coors Field couldn’t save the Rockies bat in that start, as Cease cruised through 7 innings allowing just one run one on hits and striking out eight. Cease has thrown his four seamer and slider a combined 84% of the time this season. Against those pitches, the Rockies have slashed a combined .237/.299/.382 with a .302 wOBA AND A 49% K%!!!!!!

Baltimore Orioles vs. Toronto Blue Jays
The Pick: Gunnar Henderson over 1.5 bases +105
Great spot for Henderson here tonight against Chris Bassitt. If there is anything you need to know about Bassitt, is that he REALLY struggle against lefties. Currently, Bassitt a .431 wOBA with a 7.50 FIP, five of the six home runs allowed and only a 17% K%. This continues a trend we’ve seen from him over the past few seasons and a play I will continue to target.
Bassitt’s primary pitch is a sinker, throwing it 40% of the time. This is a pitch that Henderson has handled, hitting .286 against it with only a 16% K%. Hitting leadoff should give him plenty of opportunities today to go over 1.5 bases, which is something he’s done in 19 of the 40 games he’s played.
