Although there are two top-25 matchups on Wednesday’s college basketball slate, let’s dive into a Big East battle between the No. 20 Marquette Golden Eagles and the two-time defending national champion UConn Huskies. This game will tip-off at 8:30 p.m. ET in Gampel Pavilion in Storrs, Connecticut.
Here’s a college basketball pick for Wednesday’s game between Marquette and UConn.
Marquette at UConn (8:30 p.m. ET)
As of late, this has been a one-sided matchup. UConn has won the four previous games and five of the last six between the two teams. The last time that Marquette beat the Huskies in Connecticut was in February 2012. Since they last played on February 1, both teams have gone 4-3.
After losing by 14 points to St. Johns, UConn has won back-to-back games by at least 12. A big reason for their recent success has been the emergence of big man Tarris Reed Jr. He has had a 20-point double-double in two straight games and is coming off a performance with 24 points and 18 boards against Providence on Saturday. UConn is -4.5 on DraftKings Sportsbook against Marquette.
Marquette star guard Kam Jones has been excellent throughout the year, averaging 18.4 points per contest. But in the last few weeks, he has hit a lull. Jones has been held to 14 or fewer points in three of the previous four games. If UConn can contain Jones and have Reed stop David Joplin, they can extend their winning streak to three games. Even though UConn is currently unranked and 20-9 on the season, they have been great at home this season. UConn is 13-2 when playing at home this year.
