Saquon Barkley has reportedly signed a historic contract extension to stay with the Eagles for at least four more seasons.

Saquon Barkley Extension

This time last year, Saquon Barkley was a free agent and the Giants were deciding whether or not they wanted to pay up to keep the running back that they once drafted second-overall. Ultimately, the Giants decided not to pay Barkley and that allowed him to move on from the organization. It was the Giants’ division rival, the Philadelphia Eagles, that shelled out a three-year $37.75 million contract to add Barkley to their already great roster. The Eagles believed that they were just a couple of pieces away from a Super Bowl and that Barkley could be the offensive spark they needed. Of course, the rest is history. Barkley set the Eagles’ single-season franchise rushing record, won NFL Offensive Player of the Year and helped the team win Super Bowl 59.

The partnership between Barkley and the Eagles ended up being a match made in heaven and neither side wants the party to end anytime soon. In a rare move in the NFL world, the Eagles extended Barkley despite him still having two years left on his contract. The Eagles gave Barkley an extension of two years and $41.2 million. That makes it four more years on Barkley’s contract and, during those last two years, he will be the highest-paid running back in the history of the NFL. No running back has ever been paid over $20 million per season, until now. The deal includes $36 million in guaranteed money and up to $15 million in incentives and escalators. Barkley and the Eagles hope that this is just the beginning and there are more Super Bowls on the horizon.
