Detroit Tigers at Boston Red Sox
The Pick: Tigers team total over 1.5 runs through first five innings -115
Nick Pivetta has been a mixed bag since coming off the injured list earlier this month. In two of those starts, he allowed a total of 10 runs to the Braves and Brewers but only allowed three runs to the Cardinals and Rays. It’s been hard to figure out just which Nick Pivetta is going to show up on a given night. I’m not banking on a great start tonight against a Tigers offense that’s slashing .257/.367/.432 with a .354 wOBA against fastballs from a right-handed pitcher. Pivetta is throwing that pitch nearly half the time, doing so 43%. It’s a big difference from the overall Red Sox philosophy on fastballs, as they’ve thrown it at the lowest rate in the league. Right-handed bats are also a big issues for Pivetta, as they have a .351 wOBA against him. I think the Tigers score last two runs through the first five innings tonight against him.
Arizona Diamondbacks at New York Mets
The Pick: Diamondbacks run line -1.5 +150
The Mets are crumbling (again). This team is full of dysfunction and are just 2-8 over their last 10 games. They face Zac Gallen, who has been better on the road lately. I’ve been a big proponent of fading Gallen on the road but my bankroll will tell you, that hasn’t been working out lately. Over his last three road starts, he’s thrown 17 innings against the Orioles, Reds and Mariners and allowed just five runs on eight hits with 13 strikeouts. This Mets offense has been extremely unimposing and are averaging just 3.4 runs over their last 10 games. This Mets team has really struggled against the fastball and curve, which are the two main pitches Gallen throws a combined 71% of the time. They have a combined .295 wOBA against the fastball and a .277 wOBA against the curve.
