The Carolina Panthers are looking for a better outcome in the 2024 season after finishing as the worst team in the NFL last season. Arguably, they can’t do worse than last season because the Panthers at least own their first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, so if they do finish last, they will be able to benefit in that way, unlike in 2024.
Carolina has a new head coach for the second season in a row, bringing in former Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Dave Canales. He was credited with Geno Smith’s turnaround as a QB in Seattle in 2022 and Baker Mayfield’s resurgence last season. The hope is that Canales will help former No. 1 overall pick Bryce Young turn around the slow start to his career and have the Panthers competing in the NFC South once again.
The Panthers added some offensive help early in the draft. They traded into the backend of the first round, selecting University of South Carolina wide receiver Xavier Leggette. It was a head-scratching move outside of the fact that it gets them the fifth-year option for him in the future. Carolina followed it up by selecting Texas RB Jonathan Brooks in the second round, who is coming off a torn ACL.
