The transfer portal has seen plenty of action since March Madness ended a month ago. Here, we break down the list of the top committed players this offseason, and what they will bring to their new teams in the 2024-25 season.
College basketball transfer portal
Top commits as of May 9
Kadary Richmond, G
Seton Hall —> St. John’s
Richmond’s career began at Syracuse before he transferred to Seton Hall, where he spent three years. The guard led the Pirates in just about every stat line last year, averaging a team-high 15.7 points, seven rebounds, 5.1 assists, and 2.2 steals per game. Richmond’s defense sets him apart from some others in the portal this season, as does his extensive experience. He will stay in the Big East as he joins Rick Pitino’s Red Storm in New York.
Johnell Davis, G
FAU —> Arkansas
Davis came onto the scene in 2023 when FAU went all the way to the Final Four as a No. 9 seed — the perfect Cinderella story. In the 2023-24 season, he went above and beyond with the Owls, leading the team with 18.2 points and 2.9 assists per game. Davis joins John Calipari in Arkansas as the former Kentucky legend attempts to create a new SEC powerhouse. Davis’ specialty comes from the perimeter — he shot over 41% from the three-point line in the 2023-2024 season.
Jeremy Roach, G
Duke —> Baylor
Baylor is going to be a problem in the Big XII next year. The Bears picked up Duke guard Jeremy Roach, who helped lead the Blue Devils to an ACC championship in 2023 and and Elite Eight bid in 2024. In the 2022-23 season, Roach averaged 13.6 points and 3.1 assists per game — ranking second on the team in both statistics — and was named third-team All-ACC after the 2023-24 season after putting up 14 points and 3.3 assists per game. Roach comes into Baylor as a replacement for RayJ Dennis, who led the Bears in assists and steals last season.
Norchard Omier, F
Miami —> Baylor
Baylor adds another key veteran in former Miami Hurricanes forward Norchad Omier. Despite Miami’s struggles in the 2023-24 season, Omier had one of his best seasons yet, leading the Hurricanes with 17 points, 10 rebounds, and 1.5 steals per game. While he stands at just 6-foot-7, Omier makes his presence on the floor known and will be a key factor in Baylor’s rebounding abilities in the upcoming season.
AJ Storr, G
Wisconsin —> Kansas
AJ Storr led the Badgers in scoring in the 2023-24 season, putting up 16.8 points per game. He now heads south to join Bill Self’s Jayhawks, which will be Storr’s third team in three years. He began his career at St. John’s. Storr went 32% from the perimeter and 43.4% from the floor this past season.
Tucker DeVries, G
Drake —> West Virginia
DeVries is a two-times Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year, and he heads to the next level of college basketball with his one remaining year of eligibility. DeVries is following his father Darian DeVries, who was poached from his Drake head coaching position to lead the West Virginia Mountaineers. DeVries had a team-high 21.6 points, 3.7 assists, and 1.6 steals last season, and led the Bulldogs to two straight conference championships.
