Steph Curry best prop bets for January 5

The final matchup of today’s NBA slate will be between the Sacramento Kings and Golden State Warriors. Steph Curry and company will host their cross-state rival for the first time this season.

Neither of these teams has gotten out to the start they desired this season. Golden State sits in eighth place in the Western Conference with an 18-16 record. Sacramento is just 16-19 and is in 11th place in the conference.

The Kings are also dealing with injuries as De’Aaron Fox is set to miss tonight’s matchup due to a hip injury. Steph Curry missed last night’s game against the Grizzlies but is set to return tonight. The Warriors will, however, be without Jonathan Kuminga, Brandin Podziemski, and Gary Payton II.

The Warriors enter this game as 3.5-point favorites and -165 on the Moneyline. The Kings hold +140 odds on the Moneyline on DraftKings Sportsbook and the game total is set at 225.

Curry’s props are listed at over/under 24.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists,4.5 made three-pointers and 36.5 combined points, rebounds and assists.

Steph Curry 30+ Points (+205)

LeBron James has gotten plenty of attention in recent weeks for still performing at a high level at an advanced age but Steph Curry is not far behind him. At 36 years old and in his 16th NBA season, Curry continues to play at a high level. Through the opening 27 games he has played, Curry is averaging 22.3 points, 6.5 assists, and 4.8 rebounds. He is knocking down 41.8% of his three-point attempts while shooting 10.4 perimeter shots per game. This three-point percentage is also (somehow) below his career average of 42.5% on three-pointers.

Sacramento also leaves a lot to be desired on the defensive end of the floor. The Kings rank 19th in opponents points per game and also allow the second-highest three-point percentage on the season. Steph Curry stretches defenses in unique ways with his advanced off-ball movement and impressive work rate. Sacramento made a coaching change and are doing everything possible to get back on track. But they have some personnel issues that will prevent them from too significant of a defensive turnaround.

While Curry is still averaging 22.3 points per game this year, this would be his lowest-scoring output since the 2011-12 season (minimum six games). He has battled an ankle injury already this year and is beginning to find his offensive form. Expect him to eclipse his point prop of 24.5 points at -120 odds and it is worth taking a chance on 30+ points at +205 odds.

Curry has scored 30 points in six games this season including the last time he was on the floor. While the two-time scoring champion missed last night’s game, he went 8-8 on 3PA and finished with 30 points on Thursday against the Philadelphia 76ers.

Golden State has been making a clear effort to grow Jonathan Kuminga’s role in the offense but the 22-year-old suffered an ankle injury last night so this will not be an option. Expect a throwback performance from Curry tonight against his cross-state rival. The Warriors are still intent on competing this year and keeping the championship and will continue to do so as long as Curry proves capable. Tonight may very well be a performance in which we have a reminder of why this remains the right outlook as Curry scores 30+ for the second straight game.
