In the final matchup of the seven-game NBA slate, the Los Angeles Lakers will host the Memphis Grizzlies. Anthony Davis and the Lakers have drastically cooled off from their hot start to the season and their issues have only been magnified by the recent absence of LeBron James.
The Lakers hold a record of 13-12 and have dropped to tenth place in the Western Conference. They will host the Grizzlies who are off to a 18-8 start and are second place in the West. This will be the third matchup between these two teams already this season. Los Angeles lost the first matchup in a game that Davis did not play and produced a five-point victory in the game with the nine-time All-Star.
The Grizzlies enter this game as 4.5-point favorites and hold -180 odds on the moneyline. The Lakers hold +150 odds on the moneyline on DraftKings Sportsbook and the game total is set at 235.
Best Anthony Davis Prop Bets on DraftKings Sportsbook
Davis’ props are listed at over/under 27.5 points, 11.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 0.5 made three-pointers and 43.5 combined points, rebounds & assists.
Anthony Davis 40+ Points & Rebounds (-130)
While there is no doubt about the success of LeBron James throughout his NBA career, one of the clear changes brought on by the new-look JJ Redick-led offense is that the team plays through Anthony Davis.
So far this season Anthony Davis is averaging 27.3 points per game which is the most in a season since his days with the Pelicans. In addition, he has added 11.2 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 2.0 blocks per game. He has recorded 40+ combined points and rebounds in 15 of the 24 games he has played.
Looking at this matchup, Memphis ranks 18th in opponents’ points per game. While they rank third in rebounding, the Grizzlies are 23rd in opponents’ rebounds per game. In the lone matchup that he played against the Grizzlies, Davis finished with 21 points and 14 rebounds.
Expect some greater success tonight with or without LeBron James on the floor. James has missed the previous two games and is officially listed as questionable although there has been increasing uncertainty about his outlook. In either case, look for Davis to lead the charge for this Lakers team.
Expect Davis to impose himself in the matchup with Jaren Jackson Jr expected to be his primary matchup. Jackson Jr is averaging just 5.9 rebounds per game this season and often struggles against the league’s most elite rebounders. Memphis addressed this in the offseason by bringing in Zach Edey to pair with Jackson Jr. Edey has been upgraded to questionable for this game, but has missed the previous 12 games with a significant ankle injury. While there is more optimism than there has been in quite some time regarding the Purdue product, expect him to be a bit limited if he can play. This also has a chance to be a significant welcome to the NBA moment as he kicks off his weeks worth of rust.
Davis himself has battled some planta fasciitis throughout the year. The Lakers have only had one game this past week so Davis will have more rest than has been the case for most of the season. He has been producing at an incredibly high level when he has been on the floor and will be in attack mode from the opening whistle.
While I like his points outright, Davis has also tallied 14+ rebounds in seven games this year. Look for him to record 40+ points and rebounds for the 15th time this season and do everything possible to give the Lakers a chance to win.
